This hands-on, contractor-led training helps foremen and field leaders apply lean construction principles in their day-to-day work. Learn how to improve schedule reliability, reduce jobsite frustration and create more predictable workflows.
Through real-world examples and practical exercises, attendees will explore how to break work into manageable packages, coordinate effectively with project teams and use lean tools to increase productivity, quality and safety.
Topics May Include:
- Understanding lean construction and why it matters
- Identifying value vs. waste in construction processes
- Creating smoother workflow and improving jobsite productivity
- Standard work, 5S organization and visual management tools
- Building quality at the source and reducing rework
- Continuous improvement and problem-solving techniques
- Breaking projects into 3–5 day work packages for better flow
- Pull planning and collaboration with other trades
- Weekly planning, look-ahead schedules and Percent Plan Complete (PPC)
- Value stream mapping and identifying process improvements
- Practical lean tools foremen can apply immediately in the field
SMACNA-Western Washington is pleased to offer specialized Foreman Upgrade Training. This training aligns with the terms outlined in the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) and supports professional development for Foremen and Lead Foremen in our industry.
Upon annual completion of sixteen (16) hours of continuing education certified by the JATC, eligible foremen may increase their wage to 12.5% and lead foremen may increase their wage to 17.5%. Please email admin@smacnaww.org for a copy of the full policy.
